What a Garage Cleanout Really Costs in Ocala

By · October 7, 2026

Short answer: a garage cleanout in Ocala costs anywhere from a tank of gas and a lost Saturday to $800 or more, depending on who does the lifting. The option most people land on is the middle one — our 12-yard roll-off at a flat $390, ten days, delivery, pickup and disposal included. It holds about four pickup-truck loads, which is roughly one packed single-car garage. Here's the honest math on all three ways to get it done.

Two-car garage in Ocala packed with moving boxes, cardboard and trim scraps before a garage cleanout

We get this call every week, usually right after somebody tried to park in the garage and couldn’t. “How much to clear it out?” The answer depends less on the garage than on how you want to do it — your truck, our crew, or our can. We sell two of those three, and we’ll still tell you when the first one is the right answer.

Three ways to clear a garage in Ocala

12-YARD DUMPSTER
$390
  • Flat, all-in — delivery, pickup & disposal included
  • 10 days to load it at your own pace
  • 1.5 tons included · about 4 pickup loads
  • Same or next-day drop in your driveway
JUNK-REMOVAL CREW
Quoted per job
  • Priced by the space it takes in the truck
  • Flat number upfront, from a photo
  • We carry it out — you don't lift a thing
  • Usually 1–3 hours, gone the same day

And then there’s the third way: your own pickup, four trips to the landfill, and a Saturday you don’t get back. It’s cheaper on paper for a small garage, and we’ll show you exactly where it stops being cheaper.

The junk-removal numbers in that table are industry-typical ranges for Central Florida, not our rate card — we price every junk job off photos, upfront, and the number doesn’t move once we’re there. Our dumpster prices are printed because a can is a can. The full rate card, including what’s baked into it, is in our guide to how much a dumpster rental costs in Ocala.

What actually fits in a 12-yard

≈ 4
pickup-truck loads — the volume of a packed single-car garage
14' × 7.5'
footprint, 3.5 feet high — fits a standard two-car driveway with room to walk around it
1.5 tons
of weight included — garage junk almost never gets close

Twelve cubic yards is about 324 cubic feet. A typical single-car garage floor is around 240 square feet, so if yours is stacked waist-high across most of the floor — boxes, the old dresser, a bike or two, shelving, the treadmill nobody uses — that’s a 12-yard load once you break things down. Garage stuff is bulky and light. You’ll run out of room long before you run into the 1.5-ton allowance, which is why we call the 12-yard the garage-cleanout can. If you’re between sizes, our guide to what size dumpster you need walks it by project.

Option 1: hauling it yourself to Baseline

Marion County’s Baseline Landfill on the southeast side of Ocala takes household debris by weight, and the county’s recycling centers take some bulk items from residents. Check marioncountyfl.org for current hours and rates before you load the truck — we’re not going to print a tipping fee that’s out of date by the time you read this.

Here’s the part the “just take it to the dump” crowd leaves out. A single-car garage is about four pickup loads. Each load is a round of loading, tying down, driving out past Silver Springs Shores, waiting at the scale, unloading by hand, and driving back — figure 90 minutes to two hours per trip. Four trips is your whole Saturday, plus fuel, plus a tarp and straps because Florida requires a secured load, plus a truck rental if you don’t own one. Do it once with a bad back and $390 starts looking reasonable.

The two-load test Walk the garage and honestly count pickup loads. One or two loads and you own a truck? Haul it yourself and keep the money. Three or more, and the DIY savings are mostly you paying yourself a low hourly rate to make landfill runs. That's the break-even, and it lands earlier than most people expect.

Option 2: a junk-removal crew

A crew makes sense when the garage isn’t the problem — the lifting is. If the stuff is up in the attic above the garage, you’ve got no room for a can, your HOA doesn’t allow one, or you simply never want to touch any of it, same-day garage cleanout by our junk removal crew is the tool. You point, we carry, we sweep, we donate what’s worth donating.

The cost is honest but it’s the highest of the three: labor is what you’re buying. Across the industry, a half-truck garage job typically runs somewhere in the $350–$550 range and a full truck $550–$800 or more — and a full junk truck carries roughly what a 12-yard can holds. So for a packed garage, you’re paying a couple hundred dollars more than the dumpster to have it gone in an afternoon instead of a weekend. For a lot of people, that’s a fair trade. Send us a photo and you’ll have our actual number in a few minutes.

Option 3: the 12-yard dumpster (the garage-cleanout can)

This is the one we’d pick for most single-car garages, and it’s not close. You book a 12-yard roll-off dumpster in Ocala, we drop it in the driveway — same or next day most of the time, boards down so your driveway’s fine — and you’ve got ten days to fill it. No permit on your own driveway anywhere in Marion County. If you’re in a deed-restricted community, your HOA may want a heads-up first; our guide to dumpster permit rules in Ocala and Marion County covers who to ask.

$390 is the whole number, not the starting number. Delivery, pickup, disposal and 1.5 tons of weight are in it. No fuel surcharge, no environmental fee, no "landfill pass-through" on the back end. The only way a garage cleanout goes over is if you fill the bottom with concrete, dirt or tile — and even then it's $70 per ton, prorated off the scale ticket, which we show you.

The ten days matter more than people think. A crew is one trip — everything has to be decided before the truck pulls up. A can sits there while you sort, sleep on the decision about the golf clubs, and load in the evenings after work. That’s the difference between a cleanout that gets finished and one that gets half-done and shoved back.

The one-weekend garage cleanout, step by step

  1. Book the can for a Friday drop. Call or text with your address and a photo of the driveway spot — you need about 20 feet by 10 feet, plus overhead clearance for the truck to raise its bed.
  2. Friday night, pull the hazardous stuff aside. Paint cans, the propane tank, old gas, car batteries, tires. Set them by the door, not in the pile — more on where they go below.
  3. Saturday morning, make four piles. Keep, sell or donate, haul, hazardous. Decide by pile, not by item — deciding one thing at a time is what stalls a garage cleanout.
  4. Load flat and low. Break down shelving and boxes, lay long pieces on the bottom, fill the gaps with the small stuff, and keep everything below the top rail. We can’t legally haul an overfilled can.
  5. Saturday afternoon, run the donation pile. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore and Goodwill in Ocala take furniture, tools and building materials in decent shape. It’s free, and it’s less in your can.
  6. Sunday, put the keep pile back on shelves. The point of the cleanout is the empty floor, not the full dumpster. Wall-mounted shelving and a couple of clear bins keep it that way.
  7. Text us for pickup. Done early? We’ll usually haul it the same or next day. Need a few more days? Just say so before day ten.
Load the heavy, flat stuff first Old workbench tops, plywood, the doors from that shed — flat on the bottom, edge to edge. It stabilizes the load and stops the voids that eat space. Most people fit noticeably more in the same 12-yard just by loading it in layers instead of tossing everything in the middle.

What can’t go in the can

Garages are where the banned stuff lives. It’s a short list, and none of it is a big errand if you handle it the week before instead of the morning of.

⚠️ Keep these out of the dumpster Paint, stains and solvents (liquids) · tires · car and lithium batteries · propane tanks, fuel and oil · fridges, freezers and AC units with freon · pool and lawn chemicals. Every one of them can get a load rejected at the scale or charged a contamination fee, and that cost has to land somewhere. The full list, with where each item actually goes, is in what can and can't go in a roll-off dumpster.

The quick version of where garage hazards go around Ocala: dry latex paint out solid with cat litter or a hardener and the hardened can is fine to toss; tire shops take tires for a small fee; auto-parts stores take car batteries, often for cash; propane tanks go back to any exchange cage; and Marion County runs a household hazardous waste drop-off for the chemicals and the gas. A freon fridge needs a scrap yard or recycler that can certify it — ask us and we can usually point you to one.

When the 16-yard is the smarter $59

Stepping up from the 12 to the 16-yard costs $59. Running out of room and needing a second can costs a whole second rental. Everyone underestimates their own garage — it’s the most reliable thing in this business. Go with the 16-yard if it’s a two-car garage that’s genuinely full, if there’s a shed or an attic going in the same can, or if the pile is the accumulation of a few decades rather than a few years.

And when the honest answer is neither can: a couch, two boxes and a broken bike don’t need a $390 dumpster. That’s a crew job, or inside City of Ocala limits it may be a curbside bulk pickup — call the city and put it out on the right day. We’d rather say that than sell you a can you’ll fill a quarter of the way.

The bottom line

Own a truck and have two loads or fewer? Haul it to Baseline and keep the money. Can’t touch it, can’t fit a can, or need it gone by dinner? Get a flat junk-removal price from a photo. Everything in between — which is most garages in Marion County — is a 12-yard dumpster in the driveway for a flat $390, a weekend, and a floor you can park on again. Not sure which one you are? Send us a picture of the garage. We’ll tell you, even when it’s the one we make less on.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a garage cleanout cost in Ocala? It depends on who does the lifting. Hauling it yourself is landfill fees by weight plus fuel and a full day — a rough $100–$250 for a single-car garage, checked against current Marion County rates. A junk-removal crew is industry-typically $350–$800+ depending on how much of the truck you fill. Our 12-yard dumpster is a flat $390, all-in, with ten days to load it.

What size dumpster do I need for a garage cleanout? A 12-yard handles most single-car garages — about four pickup-truck loads of boxes, furniture and general clutter. A full two-car garage, a garage plus a shed, or decades of accumulation is 16-yard territory, and the step up is only $59.

Is it cheaper to rent a dumpster or hire junk removal for a garage? For a packed garage, the dumpster — $390 flat versus an industry-typical $550–$800+ for a full junk truck, which holds about the same amount. Junk removal wins when it’s a couple of items, when the stuff is in the attic, or when you don’t want to load anything yourself.

Can I take garage junk to the Marion County landfill myself? Yes. Baseline Landfill on the southeast side of Ocala takes household debris by weight, and residents can use the county recycling centers for some bulk items. Check marioncountyfl.org for current hours and rates. Plan on about 90 minutes to two hours per pickup load, round trip, and secure the load — it’s required.

What can’t I put in a dumpster from my garage? Liquid paint and solvents, tires, car and lithium batteries, propane tanks, fuel and oil, fridges or AC units with freon, and pool or lawn chemicals. Dried-solid paint is fine. The county’s household hazardous waste drop-off takes most of the rest.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in my driveway in Ocala? No. On your own driveway or property there’s no city or county permit anywhere in Marion County. A dumpster in a public street needs the city’s or county’s approval first, and HOA communities may require a heads-up and set a time limit — our standard ten days fits inside most of them.
